The problem is with design.
The plastic reservoir bottle is threaded, yet it does not screw into the body of the dispenser. Instead, it is held in place by prongs. When refilled the full weight of the dishwashing liquid causes the bottle to release from the prongs. On several occasions the bottle fell and spilled on the floor and items stored in the cabinet below the sink. Needless to say cleaning up spilled concentrated dishwashing liquid is no picnic. It takes dozens of wringings of the sponge before the sudsing subsides. I finally solved this problem by installing a makeshift L bracket to support the reservoir bottle. Not my idea of great out of the box design. The second problem is that the pump siphons. This means that in a short period of time, the viscous diswashing liquid will clog the pump's weep holes and the dishwashing liquid continues to pour out of the dispenser onto...Read more 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Grohe 28 857 SD0 In Sink Soap/Lotion Dispenser, RealSteel Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement) My contractor installed this to match the Grohe faucet next to it. It was fine until the stainless steel soap dispenser started to rust and then it didn't look quite the same.
The biggest problems occur when you fill the dispenser. If you fill it more than about half-way, there is a significant probability that the weight of the dispenser will cause it to fall off the (poorly-designed) assembly. If it doesn't fall off and you continue to fill it, the soap/lotion can overflow from the bottle underneath the sink onto the insides of the cabinet. Then you have a real mess to clean up. I just can't imagine that a major manufacturer would not discover these problems before putting this item on the market. I would have given this product a '0' if that were possible. Since it is not, I gave it the lowest possible score. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. 13 of 15 people found the following review helpful: By mb "mb" (US) - See all my reviews This review is from: Grohe 28 857 SD0 In Sink Soap/Lotion Dispenser, RealSteel Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement) I, too, bought this pump to to match a Grohe faucet. I have not had any trouble at all with the dispenser bottle falling off (knock on wood bcs I know about spilled soap!), but maybe I didn't fill it full enough. I thank the reviewer for the L-bracket idea. Will get right on that one!
My problem is that the white "suction housing" that fits into the stainless nozzle (and connects to the tube that goes down into the dispenser bottle) has cracked longitudinally. No more suction. It started as a slow "drool" onto the counter and then would not pump at all. Thot it might be the o-ring, but it turned out to be the crack. I tried to repair it with epoxy, but no joy. I am in the process of trying to contact Grohe for a replacement part. Sounds as tho I may not be the first! Having read these reviews, if I were buying again (and I hope I'm not), I'd go up a quality level.... ....now that I think about it, however, the suction...Read more |
